A cockroach!  Eeeeek!!!

In my debut novel, IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway and DEA Agent Christina Marquez set up a stakeout in a former crack house.  Let’s just say the house isn’t exactly home sweet home.  Between cockroaches and a noisy family racoons, the place is a little crowded.

My favorite house I’ve ever lived in was a tiny, quaint house my husband and I lived in when we first got married.  The place had been built long ago, before it was standard for every family to have a car, and it didn’t even have a driveway.  No central air or heat either.  We had to use space heaters and window unit air conditioners.  No dishwasher.  No washer-dryer hookups.  But it had charm, coziness, and a large backyard that my ornery little Dachsund/terrier mix enjoyed chasing squirrels in.

The former tenant was a young guy with a Rottweiler.  The place was a bit of a mess inside when we initially looked it over to rent, but the location was good and we figured once his broken-down futon and beer can collection were removed, the place would make a nice home for us.  We later learned, from the many late-night visitors we received, that the former tenant was a drug dealer.  Lovely.

At any rate, when we arrived with the U-Haul full of our furniture to move in, we were unexpectedly met by a welcoming commitee that numbered in the thousands.  Unfortunately, our greeters were disgusting bugs who’d survived since prehistoric times and who waved their attenaes at us in challenge.  Ew!!!

We ended up having to bug bomb the place before we could move in.  The sight we faced when we entered the house after the pesticide settled was pure horror!  It was also the inspiration for an icky but funny scene in Death, Taxes, and a French Manicure.

Had an interesting, scary, or disgusting encounter with a bug?  Been spooked by a spider in an unusual way?  Share your story here!  One person who posts a comment will win a copy of my debut novel, some SWAG, and a $10 e-giftcard.  Check back tonight to see if you’ve won!

I just wanted to stop by and wish you a HAPPY RELEASE DAY on Tuesday! Wishing you all the best with your career, Diane. I knew when I read it in manuscript form for the contest….it was a winner!

Thanks, Terri! Your encouraging feedback in the contest meant so much to me! I’ve been telling everyone I know about your great books. : )

Small ants were infesting an area of the house and it was extremely concerning since the bug man could not determine the origin and they still were prevalent. My husband finally figured out what was necessary in order to rid us of this nasty bug. We were frantic until he managed to with his skills seal up the window and strengthen the exterior with a strong cauking compound. they haven’t returned.

Haha! Our terrier mix and shepherd mix are certainly selective, too. They hear "treat" without fail, but "down" or "no!" don't always register. Raggs is such a cute name!

Reggie certainly looks happy! My own dog, Raggs, has "selective" hearing--and he's not well trained. But. Our dogs are family and we do love them.

Thanks, Barbara! I wish I could write faster, too! My ideas are backing up in my head. : ) I wish my brain had a USB port where I could automatically download the stories from my mind to the page. I'm so glad you enjoyed the book! I'm hard at work on the second one, A Trip with Trouble.

I LOVED getaway with Murder. The second book can't be published soon enough. Can you write any faster? ;-)

Thanks so much, Gerrie! So glad you enjoyed the book, and your kind words put a big smile on my face. The second book in the series, A Trip with Trouble, will release next fall. I'm looking forward to it, too!
