********** LEANNA’S POST **********

The idea had been knocking around in my head for a while: a serial killer who uses the verses of the lullaby, “Hush, Little Baby” as a blueprint for his murders and girl who can dream the murders before they happen. But it wasn’t until I was watching my mother struggle through the final stages of Alzheimer’s that I started writing it. I guess it was a sort of therapy, a way for me to deal with the pain, anger, and frustration that came from watching my Mama die, and being unable to do anything about it. I needed the outlet that writing allowed.

Alzheimer’s is a death sentence. The worst kind of death. At least with cancer there’s the possibility of survival. That’s not the case with Alzheimer’s. Not only was this horrible disease killing my Mama, it was stealing away everything that made her who she was. All we were left with was an empty shell. The person I loved and who loved me died long before the shell that was left did, and there was nothing I could do about it.

As a way to survive, I decided to make my protagonist’s mother have Alzheimer’s so we could travel this road together. I know, I know…it was a mean thing to do, but at that point in my life, it felt necessary, and it allowed me to honor Mama by weaving some of the things she said and did into my story. I guess Lacey was sort of my alter ego during this difficult time. I know God is in control even when everything feels chaotic, but writing this book helped me by giving me a tiny measure of control over one small thing in a fictional world.

To honor my mother, I will donate my royalties from “Hush” to Alzheimer’s research through the Rotary Club’s CART fund. (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust)

So, if you like Christian suspense with a bit of romance, you’ll love this book. Treat yourself or a friend to a copy today and you’ll not only get a great read, you’ll be helping to find a cure for this terrible disease. And please don’t forget to write a review!

Haha! Our terrier mix and shepherd mix are certainly selective, too. They hear "treat" without fail, but "down" or "no!" don't always register. Raggs is such a cute name!

Reggie certainly looks happy! My own dog, Raggs, has "selective" hearing--and he's not well trained. But. Our dogs are family and we do love them.

Thanks, Barbara! I wish I could write faster, too! My ideas are backing up in my head. : ) I wish my brain had a USB port where I could automatically download the stories from my mind to the page. I'm so glad you enjoyed the book! I'm hard at work on the second one, A Trip with Trouble.

I LOVED getaway with Murder. The second book can't be published soon enough. Can you write any faster? ;-)

Thanks so much, Gerrie! So glad you enjoyed the book, and your kind words put a big smile on my face. The second book in the series, A Trip with Trouble, will release next fall. I'm looking forward to it, too!
